While I doubt this really applies to anyone reading my blog -- for those who might be considering a vote for Huckabee, here's an example of his ethical grounding. In 1992, while running for the Senate, he said the following:If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague.
It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents.
Mind you, the mechanisms of AIDS transmission were well understood by the mid-80s. To add insult to injury, speaking on Fox News on Dec 30, 2007 (yes, a week ago), he refused to 'recant' this comment. I think you can see from today's skeleton action figure what I think of this comment...
