This Muslim holiday celebrates Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son (Ishmael). I've been in the Middle East for this holiday several times -- fun family time, but it can be tough to be around if you happen to be out and about at butchering time (sorry to be an ethnocentric cultural relativist).
